Médecins du Monde stands by the side of the refugee populations that remain stranded in the Greek territory. With a daily presence in refugee and migrant shelters, they provide medical and psychosocial care to thousands of people. In this way they seek to ensure access to health care for these vulnerable populations and social groups.
In recent years, Médecins du Monde has been consistently active at the Accommodation Facility in Kara Tepe, Lesvos, providing Health and Psychosocial Support Services to refugees and asylum seekers residing on the island.
During the period 1 January 2019 to 30 June 2019, in the framework of the project “Primary Health Care and Psychosocial Support Services in Kara Tepe”, more than 10,000 medical visits were carried out, thus contributing to maintaining and increasing access to a comprehensive package of Primary Health Care Services (PHS) and Psychosocial Support Services (PSS) for refugees and asylum seekers residing in Lesvos.
The project is funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and implemented by Médecins du Monde Greece.
