Expansion of the Social Polyclinic of Thessaloniki

Médecins du Monde and the Municipality of Thessaloniki open the new premises of the Social Polyclinic of Médecins du Monde on Wednesday, 4 December at 18:30.

With more than 20 years of service to the city, the Polyclinic – already operating at 29A Ptolemaion Street and expanding to the junction of 57 Dimitriou Lagada and Galanaki Streets – provides primary health care, mental health services, social support and emergency assistance to socially vulnerable groups with limited access to public health services.

The main focus of MdM is to ensure timely access to quality preventive care and mental health services, psychosocial support and emergency assistance, as well as to strengthen the link between vulnerable social groups (poor, uninsured, long-term unemployed, people in need, women and children, Roma, refugees and migrants) and public and social services and structures.

The Social Polyclinic supports primary health care services by specialists including, among others, specialists in pathologists, paediatricians, gynaecologists, cardiologists, surgeons, orthopaedists, orthopaedists, neurologists, ophthalmologists, psychiatrists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, urologists, pulmonologists, endocrinologists and ENT specialists. On the premises, vaccination coverage is provided in accordance with the national vaccination programme for both minors and adults and family planning services are offered.

The expansion of the services of the Social Polyclinic significantly strengthens the activity of the MdM mobile medical unit in Thessaloniki, extending the provision of health services to the entire prefecture. In this way, the needs of homeless people, users of psychoactive substances, sex workers and other vulnerable and socially excluded groups are covered.

The new premises are courtesy of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, while their construction is due to the generous support and sponsorship of Sani|ikos Group, Alumil, Saint Gobain Hellas, Leroy Merlin, Fibran AE, Isomat AE, PAOK Action and ABB Greece.
