Volunteering at Médecins du Monde takes various forms, by participating in field actions and by contributing to the implementation of projects or the outreach of the Organisation. Depending on your profile, your experience and your availability, you can participate alongside us at various levels of our actions.
By giving up some of your free time, you can provide substantial support to vulnerable people, gain useful scientific and social experience and join a group of people who are interested in improving society. Volunteering is the driving force of Médecins du Monde who seek to promote it, strengthening the sense of solidarity and giving back to people and the world.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can volunteer?
Everyone! Depending on your skills, motivation, availability and experience, we will choose together the action you will participate in.
I have no medical knowledge. Can I also help?
Of course! It is not necessary to be involved solely in the health care sector. Apart from this, there are needs in various areas, such as interpretation and translation, distribution of material aid, support to social care facilities, as well as additional assistance at headquarters, in outreach activities and in the emergency response of MdM-Greece. Every skill can be very useful!
Are there any specific requirements to become a volunteer?
MdM-Greece works with volunteers to provide a safe, confidential and protected environment for participation. You will first need to meet and complete volunteer participation paperwork and will be given the MdM Code of Conduct which you will need to be familiar with and comply with.
In which actions can I participate?
Since the beginning of their action, MdM-Greece has implemented numerous projects, both in Greece and abroad, aiming at providing health care and psychosocial assistance to people in immediate need. Depending on your skills, availability, experience and needs, we will choose together the action you will participate in.
What support is available for me?
You will collaborate with the Volunteer Team and MdM-Greece staff on where to be positioned. You will receive information regarding the requirements of the position you have expressed interest in, as well as guidance and training if required. For anything else you may need, MdM-Greece will always be available to help and support you.
What training will I get?
MdM-Greece provides all volunteers with general training and orientation before participating in any action. Some volunteer positions may require more formal training depending always on the chosen action.
How often do I have to come in?
Whenever you are available. Even once a month is enough as long as there is consistency and commitment to the set schedule.
What if I can't continue volunteering?
Volunteers can take time off if they leave for a long period of time or if they feel unable to continue their participation (for reasons of health, work, studies, etc.). You will have to inform the Volunteer Department and the person in charge of the action you are participating in.
Can I join an action abroad?
Yes, as long as there is action abroad and a need to volunteer. A prerequisite, however, is experience and the development of a strong relationship with Médecins du Monde, initially in Greece.
