Assessment of needs
The situation is dramatic in Morocco, which on Saturday was hit by a 7 magnitude earthquake. Officially, the toll so far is 2 500 dead and at least as many injured, half of whom are in a serious condition.
MdM teams are assessing the needs of earthquake victims in the Marrakech region. MdM and its partners are preparing for the exploratory missions scheduled for the coming days. The aim will be to assess the specific needs of the affected population in terms of healthcare and mental health in the remote villages and mountainous areas affected by the earthquake in Morocco.
Several local partners, including some with whom we are already working in Rabat and Oujda, will be taking part in the operations.
MdM has been present in Morocco since 2013 in the Oujda and Rabat regions. It helps migrants gain access to healthcare from which they are excluded. Specific projects target migrant women and children in migration situations who are on Moroccan territory.
MdM is assessing the needs of earthquake victims in the Marrakech region. As soon as they are able, they will go on site to implement the most effective humanitarian response possible.
