ImpressionDoctors of the World – Greece, in cooperation with the Swiss Delegation, intervene in the refugee camps throughout Greece since September 2015. The emergency plan which is in place, focuses on three basic areas: primary healthcare, psychological, and reproductive health. More attention is given to pregnant women, and children. Following the evacuation of the refugee camp in Eidomeni, our medical team provides its services to refugee camps in Diavata and Oraiokastro, while also offering psychosocial support to the hosting facility “Elpida”. The current situation in the area is extremely volatile, and day-to-day activities are under constant re-evaluation, depending on the arising needs. During the first trimester of 2016, the current project provided support to approximately 8.300 persons. Over 40% of the refugees who were examined by our medical teams were minors, whilst half of them were either females or teenagers. The medical team consists of a pediatrician, general practitioners, nurses, social workers, psychologists, a psychiatrist, a gynaecologist, a midwife, and interpreters.

The project is implemented with the support of the foundation “Swiss Solidarity”.
