Providing Education and Immediate Accommodation to Migrant Children in Greece – PEDIA
Doctors of the World, in cooperation with the International Organization of Migration, implemented the project “Providing Education and Immediate Accommodation in Migrant Children in Greece – PEDIA”. This project corresponded to the opening of hotels in Athens and in Northern Greece as an emergency response to the presence of Unaccompanied Child Migrants on the Greek islands. Doctors of the World provided five (5) medical mobile units including one driver and one doctor per unit who offered Primary Health Care services on a weekly basis in each hotel. The organization also provided nurses operating in a daily basis in each hotel.
Doctors of the World’s medical teams began operating in July 16th, 2018 which was the continuation of the program “Emergency Response in Accommodating Unaccompanied Migrant Children – ERAcUMiC”. The medical teams ceased their activities at the 31st of May 2019, according to the “Providing Education and Immediate Accommodation in Migrant Children in Greece – PEDIA” project which was funded by the Asylum, Integration Migration and Integration Fund of the European Union and was implemented in close collaboration with the International Organization of Migration.
