With the significant support of The Hellenic Initiative Canada, between March and July Doctors of the World provided medical and psychosocial support to socially and financially vulnerable, isolated elderly people who were already registered as beneficiaries of the Organization and, due to public protective measures were temporarily stranded in their homes. At the same time, new beneficiaries were registered in cooperation with the municipal services and other services of non-governmental organizations in different municipalities of Attica and Central Macedonia.

The action consisted of two main pillars: a) help at home with door-to-door visits and b) prevention and remote counseling. For this reason, 12 medical and psychosocial support professionals were available daily from 09.00 – 19.00 for remote counseling and support via the new telecommunication platforms.

The beneficiaries who received psychosocial and medical support during the reporting period numbered 823. The MdM teams for actions of assistance consisted of a social worker, doctor, psychologist and nurse who made more than 505 door-to-door visits and 323 beneficiaries received free medical assistance. At the same time, the teams carried out the execution of electronic prescriptions in collaboration and following an appropriate referral from the social services of Municipalities (Athens, Perama, Keratsini, Thessaloniki, etc.). During the same period, 565 psychosocial sessions and 442 medical sessions were conducted.thi-canada-logo
