Auburn University’s students at MdM-Greece
MdM-Greece on 26.06.2023 welcomed students of health and social sciences from Auburn University of Alabama at Impact Hub Athens. The kick-off event of the Volunteer Orientation Days was warmly attended and with great interest on behalf of the students from Auburn University, who during the next three days had the opportunity to learn more about the humanitarian work of MdM-Greece, while participating in its various activities.
The students attended on the basis of daily rotation, Brief Orientation Sessions at the conference Room of the MdM-Greece headquarters in Athens. During these sessions the participating students had the opportunity to get in touch with many MdM-Greece staff members exchanging ideas and experiences; to watch a series of documentaries on MdM-Greece activities, both locally and internationally; to participate in interactive activities and to receive the necessary information regarding their upcoming visits to both the Open Polyclinic and the Refugee Reception Centres, where they carried out rapid tests for HIV and STDs.
Visit at the Mayor Hall
As part of this volunteering and educational project carried out by MdM-Greece, the students of Auburn University of Alabama visited and met the Mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoyannis and the Deputy Mayor of Social Solidarity and Civil Society, Katerina Gagaki, where they toured the Athens City Hall. At the same time, the students visited the Greek Association of people living with HIV – Positive Voice, where they were informed about HIV and AIDS and all the necessary tests for early diagnosis.
We would like to thank all the participants for their support, the General Secretariat for Reception and Identification, the administrations of the Malakasa RIC and Schisto and Ritsona Accommodation facilities, the National Public Health Organization (NPHO) and the Bodossaki Foundation, as well as the Municipal Hall and the Greek Association of people living with HIV, Positive Voice, for their hospitality.
The Volunteer Orientation Days with Auburn University falls within the wider implementation of the three-year Strategic Plan of MdM-Greece “THEO.RO”, through the organizational grant of the Active citizens fund with the Bodossaki Foundation and SolidarityNow.
