Mikis Theodorakis Symphony Orchestra in a unique concert at the Old Fortress of Corfu

One of Mikis Theodorakis’ symphonic works, the popular oratorio “Axion Esti”, with music by Mikis Theodorakis and poetry by Odysseas Elytis, will be performed by the Mikis Theodorakis Symphony Orchestra at the Old Fortress of Corfu.

As last year, this year’s concert – a tribute to Mikis Theodorakis – will take place on 9 September 2023.

The talented musicians of the Mikis Theodorakis Symphony Orchestra will bring “Axion Esti” to life in a wonderful production. Among the contributors to the production are Babis Velissarios (folk singer), Dionysis Sourbis (Baritone – Cantor), Grigoris Valtinos (Narrator).

The folk orchestra is led by Konstantinos Vidalis and Panagiotis Asbanis (bouzouki). The Municipal Choir of Corfu ”San Giacomo” participates, while the concert is directed by the Artistic Director of the Orchestra Ilias Gkogidis.

The basic policy of the Mikis Theodorakis Symphony Orchestra is to contribute in every way to social care. Part of the proceeds of the concert will be donated to MdM-Greece, and specifically for the Open Accommodation Centre of MdM-Greece, “A Step Forward”, as well as for medical care activities on the island of Corfu with the cooperation of the local Medical Association. A collaboration between the Symphony Orchestra and the Ambassador of MdM-Greece, Mrs. Roula Rouvas.
