Help Desk in Thessaly

MdM-Greece Help Desk in Thessaly, operating since November 2023, is supported by a Mobile Unit to provide immediate, safe and uninterrupted access to basic services for the local people who have been affected by the September floods, as well as for vulnerable people in need of assistance.

Flooding caused by the devastating storm wave “Daniel” covered almost 730,000 acres of land, while extensive damage was reported in more than 45 different municipalities, including as many remote villages with limited or no access from main or secondary roads. In addition, damage was also reported in urban centres in the region. Among the damage was the inclusion of many transportation vehicles of the residents, which further affected the ability to access services and facilities located in the urban centres of the region.

The on-site needs assessment of MdM-Greece, during the first phase of the aid intervantions in the affected areas of Thessaly, revealed the need for continuous support in material needs for the residents as well as the psychosocial support of people who found themselves in an emergency situation, accommodated in the homes of friends and relatives or in public places of free accommodation (schools, closed gyms, etc.)
