Healthcare services inside RIC of Lesvos

The prolonged stay of refugees and migrants at the RIC of Lesvos in Mavrovouni highlights the problem of on-time access to healthcare services for a population that is particularly vulnerable, especially in the groups of children, women and survivors of violence.

Médecins du Monde aims to ensure access to dignified healthcare services for third country citizens arriving on the island of Lesvos and following the reception and identification procedure at the RIC of Lesvos. Specifically, the project promotes the right to health of persons on the move by maintaining and increasing access to a comprehensive package of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and paediatric services for vulnerable women, infants and children refugees and asylum seekers. MdM-Greece achieve this through the operation of interconnected services within the existing coordination system within the RIC of Lesvos in collaboration with the relevant agencies, namely the Reception and Identification Service, the National Public Health Agency, the International Organisation for Migration and partners of the Special Secretariat for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors.

Interconnection with services

At the same time, Médecins du Monde, apart from the emphasis on the quality of the services provided, aim to support the beneficiaries staying in the RIC of Lesvos in every possible way. For this reason, they are interconnected with other projects of the organisation – such as accommodation centers for vulnerable women, emergency projects for the most vulnerable cases, etc. – and by referring them to other organisations, thus increasing synergies and multiplier effects. Finally, the project will have a significant and long-term impact in terms of the quality of life of its beneficiaries and the promotion of the right of access to humanitarian services for all.
